According to the oft-wrong but sometimes eerily correct MSN horoscope:

Aries
March 20 - April 18
A lot of tedious paperwork is probably waiting for you, and you'll want to get it done as fast as possible. You might be distracted and also rather irritated by everyone goofing off and telling jokes and stories. Don't worry about everyone else; concentrate on your own work. You'll only cause further irritation by getting upset with everyone. You'll be through with your tasks when they're just getting started on theirs!

I've gotten over the irritation already, thanks.
As for that last statement . . . damn straight!
Then again, "they're" all two or three or four years behind me, so no shit I'll be done when they're just getting started.

I'm in Bton for a few days, making progress on two experiments and writing and reading and being generally productive. Yesterday was shot because that nagging Thursday neck ache turned into a nasty, stabbing, throbbing ache from hell all over the right side of my head. Aww, gee, migraine. I hadn't started to miss you yet. Why don't you come back later? Or not at all?

I tried to be a brave little chickie and stick it out, but Xuesong went ahead and started the protocol he was going to help me with. It was his way of saying, "you don't need to do this, go get better". I gave up on being brave and drove myself to the health center before I was no longer capable of driving at all. I cut it a little close to my limit, but made it there intact. After an hour of being curled up, my eyes and nose watering (no I wasn't crying, my face just happens to leak when I get bad migraines), and sharing with two nurses and a physician my personal expertise on The Bronwyn Migraine: Its Symptoms and Likely-to-be Successful Treatments, I was asked to drop trou for a shot and a dose of fenergan.

The next hour and a half was spent curled up, teary and awfully nauseous (wasn't the fenergan supposed to get rid of that?) and clutching my throbbing forehead while I waited for the meds to work. They used to work within half an hour. Hrmph. USED TO, indeed.

I was given more meds in pill form to take later and they sent me on my way after taking $80+ from my checking account. Damn. That much money gone and I still have the goddamn headache. How is that fair? Woke up with it this morning and I've been just holding it at bay all day long. Excuse me while I glare out the window at the weather front that refuses to go away.

*GLARE*

In other news, I think I am happy and comfortable with a decision to go to Iowa. Project, people, cost of living all work for me. No, it's not as pretty an area as Madison, but the campus is cool (I'd be in the medical center far from all undergrads) and there seem to be plenty of good places to hang out (eat), and the historical neighborhoods are gorgeous. I want one of those old (non-bungalow) houses. Yes, it is somewhat lacking in topographical features, but I figure that means I'll be able to get back into cycling without killing myself on the first day. I could complain about the lack of water, but there is that handy little river that runs through campus, and it's definitely a river - not at all like the pathetic Jordan Trickle here at IU.

Also, they want me. They know they want me, they've known they want me for a while. I consider that a good thing.

I miss my boy, but I'll be home Monday night. I miss my family, but I'll see them as soon as I am ready to defend. With any luck that will be in October. Goals are good.

Been there...congrats and good luck.

My only thought about Iowa when I was there was, "do these people make fun of NJ too...they probably shouldn't."

I looked at the old DA community and realized that it didn't really have anything going for it so I made a new one with hopes to get more members and more posts. The community is

Copy this comment and give it to anyone you know who goes to DA and maybe we can get a successful community going.

Hope you're feelin' better by now. One of my friends did his PhD work in Iowa City, and really liked the town.

I am, thank you.

I'm very happy to have one decision behind me, but there are still so many decisions and other things to get done before I can get to Iowa.

As my mamma taught me, I'm trying to take it one day, one thing at a time, but it feels so slow. Or rather, time is passing too fast - but not quickly enough, if you know what I mean.

I can't wait 'til Christmas. It'll all be over and settled down by then!
