Prodromal labor or. . .
Mar. 19th, 2007 05:22 amis my son a cervix-tease?
24 hours ago, I awoke having contractions every 12 minutes or so. We got up, went to the store, made a late breakfast, then headed out for a drive. The contractions got down to 8 minutes apart. Came home, rested with my feet up for about an hour, then headed back out to run some errands, hit some potholes, see if we couldn't move things along a ittle bit. They were five minutes apart when we stopped for Baskin Robbins milk shakes at about 5:30 pm.
I called the doc (once I had my shake safely in-hand) and he suggested I go in to get checked. By the time we went home to pick up some things and back to the hospital, they were 4 minutes apart.
They didn't hurt so much, but they took my breath away and were certainly uncomfortable. I do have a rather high pain threshold, so *shrug*.
At the hospital, the nurse asked me what my pain was on a 1-10 scale, and said that 4-5 was Gimme the Epidural . . . I laughed and said that, in my book, I don't reach that stage until we're at at ;east a 7. I can handle sharp discomfort, when it's transient, so no problem so far. I just went a little cross-eyed on the harder ones.
So I was checked - 1 cm - and monitored - contractions every 2-3 mintues. Eventually, I was given a second gown and leave to walk the quiet night-time halls of the hospital for an hour. Still having them every 2 minutes or so. Get back, get checked - still 1 cm and only a little softer than I was when we started.
They gave me a 5 mg Ambien and sent me home. We stopped off to eat first, while I grew drowsy and continued contracting. Got home, fell asleep, snored (or so I'm told). I woke up about 4 hours later, though, contracting every 2 minutes.
I don't want to go back in, because they're not hurting me, they're just regular. So I'll hang out, pace the floors, watch some Rome and see if I can't progress somehow.
This is so very annoying. I mean, I appreciate that the pain (thus far) has been tolerable, but I do wish we could make some progress.
Any advice or suggestions? As of now, I've completed 38 weeks. They'll induce me if I ask them to.
