So I'm data crunching, analysing all the images I've generated over the past 2 days of microscopy so I don't get too far behind over the next FOUR days of microscopy. While I crunch this data with mind-numbing repetitive keystrokes, I am reading a book about microbial life on leaf surfaces.

It's fascinating, to a point, but it's written by plant folk who use a vocabulary quite unfamiliar to me. Most of the terms I just skip over, having a vague or reasonable idea of what they mean based on their context. Others, I stumble over and say, "whots that now?"

Gotta love Firefox and Google. I typed in "albedo" and got this. Well golly gee, I didn't know that. Did you?

It took me 5 pages of repeated mentions before I figured out what "adaxial surface" meant.

Don't know why I shared that with you.

Hello, my name is Bronwyn, and I'm a science nerd.

Murphy continues to live on my shoulder.

Evidence: The 6 foot-long tree branch that fell through my beautiful little Volvo S60's sunroof on Monday.

The total bill for repairs? $2640.37.

Thank Harold for car insurance, damn him for $500 deductibles.

I'm afoot and enjoying it. . . sort of. I feel locked in to the path between home and the lab with no hope of escape to, say, a grocery store to restock my thoroughly depleted beer supply, or to the mall to redeem a couple of Happy Birthday To You $10 store cards.

It's 3 o'clock and I haven't heard from the shop, so I assume that I won't be getting my pretty little car back today. So I now have no hope of escaping to Louisville for a Saturday night with my Boy, or to Sam's for a toilet paper and laundry detergent run. I can only hope to have it back on Monday, in time for my Wednesday morning road trip for a three-day stay at Purdue in West Lafayette.

I said it before, I'll say it again: STEP OFF, MURPHY!

Edited to add: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck! shitdamnfuckadamndamn Just got off the phone with the nice man at the body shop. My car is in the paint shop right now, she has no headliner, disengaged airbags, and a damaged console. He ordered the parts on Tuesday. Tuesday, people, and the parts haven't arrived yet. What the hell?!? He says he'll have the car back from the pain shop on Monday, and he hopes he'll have the parts that day, too. He still thinks he can get 'er back to me on Tuesday.

I sure hope so. I don't feel like driving a university car to Purdue.

AARRGH!
