Did I say I was lucky?
Jul. 17th, 2008 10:27 amI had to open my big fat mouth, didn't I.
A couple of months ago, Navigate did a bunch of stuff to our computers and installed Kaspersky. Ever since then, my computer has vomited in one way or another every Thursday. The time has been inconsistent, the manner in which the computer has vomited varies, and in fact last Thursday things were clear.
Not today. Not today, when I have about 6 days to finish writing this grant and get input from every blessed Director who is running away to the AACC meeting next Friday. Today, when I had written three pages on the Background and Significance section and made modifications to the Manuscript That Will Not Get Finished In My Lifetime, the computer decided to vomit in a new way.
I had 6 Word docs open. Two were being modified. I get a warning when I go to save the B&S ... something about Word not being able to save because of a missing network connection or floppy. (I was saving to the hard drive, so... wtf?) I click ok after tossing in my thumb drive. Word says it's going to save before closing the affected docs. I then go to reopen the two docs and... all my changes are gone.
I pitched a fit and cried, and had to leave the building to calm down.
Time to write to Navigate - AGAIN - and tell them the problem is still going on and please get back here and undo whatever they did to my computer. In the meantime, I have a grant to write... on my laptop.
God dammit, I don't have time for this shit.
And I really, really REALLY want a margarita. NOW.
