"I'll be in on Friday" means "I won't be there, I won't email or call you to let you know when I'll really be there. Don't hold your breath." That would be Alison.
"I'll be there at 8:30" means "I'll be there at 10:15, so you'd better keep an eye on my experiments for me and adjust your schedule to accomodate my own even more than you're already doing." That would be Jose (Joey).
In other news, Clay brought a little additional joy to my life this morning.

The REU program this year has added a new feature! That's right, this summer, the students are expected to write a proposal for their projects - at the beginning of the program. Yes, that's right, a proposal needs to be written starting soon, due July 1. Guess who needs to help out with the extra work?
