You guys rock.
Mar. 11th, 2004 08:14 pmI love my brilliant friends here on LJ. Tonight, hats off to
marstokyo who has inspired me to solve my entertainment woes.
I've got a cable subscription with Insight. Insight likes to raise my rates. In the <5 years I've lived here, my cable rates have gone up more than $13 a month. Unacceptable, if you ask me.
rozsdan suggested I cancel my cable, especially since I have so much to do this year, and should stay away from the zombie machine, anyway.
He's right, of course.
BUT I need something I can rot my brain to, right? Reading and cross stitching take up too much brain power. I need my mind-numbing media.
Solution? Drop the cable and subscribe to Netflix! 4-8 movies at a time, I can keep em as long as I want, and it's CHEAP.
I am so in. I'm going to call Insight tomorrow and drop my cable plan down to the bare-bones so I will get local weather and PBS, at least. That's just $13. Netflix is, what, $10 a month? Less, maybe? That'll save me more than $20 a month!
Alright, that's it. Decision is made. Netflix, here I come!

Date: March 11th, 2004 06:03 pm (UTC)I just found that netflix is $20/month - damn, that's more than double what it was when I first learned of it.
That's ok, I'll still save more than $10 a month. That $10 will go straight into my car loan. :-) Easy come, easy go.

Date: March 11th, 2004 07:38 pm (UTC)It is $25/month for five and $30 or $35/moth for 8.
Trust me, I watch a LOT of movies and three is just fine.
Plus, look at it this way...
IF you can watch 3 movies over every weekend, and return your movies in the mail on Monday, you have three new ones every Thursday, which works out to about 12 movies a month.
For $20.
Less than $2/movie.
You can't beat Netflix with a stick. I've been a member for 15 months now and LOVE it. In that time, I have been to the video store exactly TWICE because I didn't have movies I wanted to see RIGHT NOW.
YOu have chosen wisely, grasshoppa.

Date: March 11th, 2004 09:09 pm (UTC)Recommendations? If you haven't seen Lost in Translation yet... School of Rock is a lot of fun, if dopey :) High Fidelity is a must-see and I think that Croupier is noir genius.
NEXT! :)
