Yes, I'm still alive. Even kicking a little.

I've not been around LJ world much at all lately - maybe some of you noticed. I've been doing the usual, working working and. . . yeah, working. I've been working on my thesis, working at the bench, working toward landing a job, working on selling my house, and working for my class.

I can now officially knock one of those items off of my list. I closed on the sale of my house today. I am now back among the renters, as the buyers are letting me stay in the house for three more months.

So on July 31st, I will be homeless. Sort of.

Class is also finished, but I still need to grade 20 lab notebooks and go to a meeting on Monday to assign class grades. In any case, that's one more item I can *almost* knock off the list.

My time is once again my own.

Time to kick into high gear (although I think I'm already there), and get this dissertation done. PhD, here I come!

From the way things look, my thesis will have 4 or 5 chapters. As my advisor says, I'm going to blow the requirements out of the water, so I'm not too worried about satisfying my committee, the dean, or the department. I just have to get it done.

I'm well on my way, but I've got a whooooooole lotta work to do before I can call it done.

So that's what's up with my life right now. I'm motivated, I'm in love, and I'm terribly impatient.

Instead of a gold star, I've been shopping, instead. Now I'll hang my head in shame at my shopaholicism.

Don't know where I'm going yet, but I am definitely changing city. My options right now are in Iowa City, Madison, Baltimore or (at a long stretch) Boston.

I'm playing a little waiting game right now. It's not just a matter of who wants me working with them. It's a matter of whose project peaks my passion and (more importantly) who can pay me for at least a year.

Silly boy, no master's degree for me. I went straight for the PhD!

So right now, I have a certificate that says I'm a PhC. . . as in doctoral candidate. By the end of the year, I'll be Doctor Ramey :-)

hahaha..I've been out shopping all day..and my feet hurt, I can definitely sympathize. My brother-in-law and his wife and kids live in Des Moines..one of the few places I've actually traveled to..my other brother-in-law is a brain researcher used to be at Rochester, now he works in DC but he lives in Virginia.

That's what I thought. But I thought you wrote "thesis" rather than "dissertation".

I've been such a globetrotter, I can't wait until I can really settle down and call a place home. I wonder if I'd even be content with that? *shrug* Won't know until I try.

I think you should start introducing yourself as "Doctor". Go around tapping peoples' knees with a rubber hammer and say "Excellent, excellent....It's okay, I'm a Doctor".

Or you could do what I did when I graduated with my BSEE. Three day drunk.

I'm trying to imagine what it would be like if I went to work as a specialist in a law firm. . . then they'd pay me AND pay for me to go to law school if I wanted to.

Then I'd be PhD, JD - Doctor Doctor!
