Joys of the Season
Nov. 25th, 2002 08:24 amIt's getting to be that time of year again. . . the chilly winds are blowing, the trees are bare and there's the scent of snow in the air.
(I didn't intend for that to rhyme, really I didn't)
Mom and dad will be here this afternoon and tonight, we'll kick off the holiday season together. Mom will be staying until it's time to head down to Texas for Christmas, so there's a whole month of mommy-time ahead of me, followed by two weeks of mom-and-dad-and-old-friends-time.
And lots of really really good food.
And there are fees to pay and bills to pay.
And there is giving to do. I've taken several donations over to the Salvation Army this year, and I already have another pile of little-worn shoes to take over there soon. Over at UE, Roughy has set up a great holiday fundraiser. You can read about it here. We've all been disappointed by big-business "charities" in the past several months (years for me), but this is an opportunity for a whole lot of people to each give a little bit - and that little bit will go directly to help a family or two in need this holiday season. No fees, no profit-making. Just giving.
If you feel inspired, I encourage you to contribute - every little bit helps.
Peace!
