Mark your calendars!
Sep. 15th, 2004 08:55 amI have the Cleland Room reserved from noon to 3pm on Friday, October 22nd. It's dank, dark, musty and a tad too small, but a popular room for dissertation defenses. Anybody who'd like to come is welcome. It will be SRO, but I think I'd get a kick out of that. No, I'm not being big-headed. A classmate of mine just defended a couple of weeks ago in the same room and it was SRO. I'm telling you, the room is just too small.
Anyway, come one, come all!
Now, if only Clay would read my draft and go easy with the red pen. . . I may actually get out of here!!
Cart.
Horse.
Yes, I have to finish this experiment I'm running, and work with Amelia to do another round. God almighty is it a dull experiment! The results damn well better be worth the trouble! Then I have to finish Chapters 4 and 5 - I hope with some advisor input.
THEN I have to give my seminar and THEN hope that my committee doesn't say, "why don't you stick around and do this, this and this?"
Ok.
Horse.
Cart.
I don't care. I have an endgame.

Date: September 16th, 2004 05:40 am (UTC)Clay gave me a little analogy yesterday. He says the tenure process and the dissertation defense are very similar. It's like being on top of a very tall building. As long as you walk in a tight little circle, you're fine. You know it and are confident in your circle-walking. BUT there's this constant nagging what if fear of falling off that stays with you, no matter how confident you are.
I don't know about the strength of the analogy, but I certainly feel the way he described.
At his tenure talk yesterday, I and my data got more time than any other people/projects in the lab. I was so flattered :)

We'll have a fantabulous dinner thursday night, then you guys and dad and Jeffrey can occupy yourselves while I make myself sick at the lab before Go-Time :)
