Chapters 1 and 2 are finished. Totally finished.
Chapter 3 is *almost* finished.
Got a few changes to make in Chapter 4.
Waiting for Clay's thoughts on Chapter 5.

I can't believe how close I am to being done.

Time to put on a pot of coffee and sit back down here to knock 3 and 4 out of the park.

Nadene and Sarah, I've sent a little note your way. Be well. I hope you find comfort and justice.

So close!!! =D

I'm ready to start my coffee, too but I doubt I'll be near as productive as you. :)

I wonder how totally useless we'd be if you and I were face-to-face together. We'd be useless, and we'd be loaded with guilt, but I bet we'd be having a blast :)

I started to say "oh no! we'd feed off each other's energy and really get a lot acomplished" but then I remembered how when I work w/my girl Becky we're supposed to be doing the same thing and and and...

It just never works out.

We'd go shopping for socks! =D

Isn't it a bit early to begin your National Novel Writing Month novel?

:)

Just a little. I'm definitely not participating this year. My first novel will just have to wait.

Going. . . Amazing how a little deadline pressure brings out the productivity in me.

It also brings out the munchies.

on a completely unrelated note...

...Holy GOD that is a fat cat. What are you feeding kitty?!?! Grease (pronounced "Greeeeeze") that piggy up and have a kitty catching contest.

Not that I can say much, what with all that fat and white fur Marzipan has concealing her cold, black, heart full of human hatred.

Yes, Rosalind and Franklin are fatties. I haven't weighed them lately, but I suspect they're around 14 lbs each. Christie, meanwhile, is a petite li'l 8 lbs.

Out of control, man. I try to give Christie treats and extra goodies, and try to make sure she eats first, but those fatsos just go nuts. Franklin's laid back and lets the ladies go first, but Rosalind is like nothing I've ever seen before. Get out of her way, there's eatin' to be done!

who woulda thunk it, considering what a sickly little thing she was.

Not that I expect you to read the thing, but you might enjoy the pretty pictures. You at least need to read the acknowledgments, because you got a mention :)

Write! Write! Write like the wind...which actually doesn't make much sense when you think about it because the wind can't actually write. Sense and me don't often get along.

Have you revealed the subject matter of this novel yet? I'm new here, and quite curious.

Well, see now, that's a good question there Newbie :-)

See that icon there? Those are my bragging rights. My first ever authorship was a cover article in that there journal.

Ok. I'll stop with the bragging.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool science nerd, about to defend my PhD dissertation in *gulp* 9 days. The sadly general title of this dissertation is "Biofilm formation by Agrobacterium tumefaciens and its role in plant interactions". It stands at 213 pages right now, full of pretty pictures and big words and bacterial hoo-ha.

I am a masochist, you see.

Wow. I am impressed! A PHD in science mumbo-jumbo? That takes a whole lot of brains and determination and knowlege of large poly-symballic LARGE words.

I'm a certified geek, and appreciate geekiness in others. My geekiness lately has been confined to hosting large Trivial Pursuit contests with 30 people competing and knowing the entire history of children's publishing, which brings me to the fact I love you have a Robert Corimer quote on your page. Yay Chocolate War! I think everyone should strive to distrub the universe everyday.

See, now your geekiness lost my geekiness. Robert Corimer? Was TS Eliot quoting Corimer? I remember reading the Chocolate War ages and eons ago, but don't remember anything about it.

My favoritest book of all time is Lafcadio - The Lion Who Shot Back. I'd have put the quotation from the last page of that book on my page, but it was too long. :-(

Actually you are completely right, it was the other way around, Eliot first, but Cormier's book constantly keeps going back to it, so whenever I see it I think of it. I love that book, even posted about getting all excited about the 30th Anniversary Editor of the Chocolate War here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/furboajerboa/11538.html.

Part of my job is knowing waaaaaay too much about kid's books, from books for infants to trashy books for 18 year olds, luckily I've always been obsessed with them all.

The Trivial Pursuit Showdown, held every July, was amazingly successful this year, and I'm not just saying that because I was crowned co-champion...okay maybe I am, but I only won because I knew about Godzilla movies which probably proves my oddness more than my intelligence. I'll send you an invite to the next if you might be a tad too far away to participate!

Oh my god. I remember it now! And it reminds me of I Am the Cheese, which left me completely horrified.

In a good way.

Wow. When I've finished Stardust (Gaiman), I may have to delve back into those old childhood faves. I'd completely forgotten those books!

When's the last time you read How to Eat Fried Worms?

BTW. If I didn't have this job, I'd want yours.

Actually I re-read How to Eat Fried Worms about two years ago. I've been working here (and by the way "here" is the association of children's publishers www.cbcbooks.org) for three years now. I'm pretty positive this is as much as I'm ever going to love a 9-5 job, which in my case says a whole lot about how much I adore the books I get to work with. It's a non-profit which means I eat Raman a lot, but I just got promoted so in lue of getting money, they are going to start flying me around the country for book shows!

Oooh if you like Gaiman you should check out his picture books which are so not really for kids. His best one is Wolves in the Walls, which if you ask me kicks the tush of his children's novel Coraline on levels of creepiness and is absolutely visually brilliant.

Oh. And I lurve Trivial Pursuit. It's the only game where I can answer "Rene and Georgette Magritte with their Dog after the War", be right, and shock everyone in the room.
