We had the living room painted yesterday. Our living room is HUGE and very TALL, so we're talking about a whole lotta latex being slapped ont he walls. Fumiliciousness!

It hit me early, burning my nose and eyes and helping my menstrual headache right along. Jeff got smacked with it later, so by the time evening rolled around, we were both snorting and blinking and grabbing our heads. If we'd been smart, we would have put the Ionic Breeze in the living room first thing, not 7 o'clock last night. Doh.

Slept late, followed the man around while he caulked things, and then I mixed up two batches of spicy Christmas cookies. Molasses and Pfefferneusse. . . yes, I think that's how it's spelled. I'll post the recipes later, if they turn out well. For now, the doughs are chilling in the fridge.

Jeff just got home with the stuff I need to fix dinner tonight. Pork tenderloin and pears in hard cider. If it's good, I'll share that recipe too!

There's progress being made on the loan for the new house, but I still haven't received a simple little CRITICAL item. Namely, the item I am missing is a written offer of employment from the UIowa lab where I'm supposed to be a postdoc. Now, I know scientists, and I know we aren't all that big on paperwork. But damn! Dude, if you wanted me to be there in time for your December 11th lab holiday party, you should have sent the letter when I needed it two weeks ago! Now, I'll be lucky if we make it by the Dec. 20 deadline in our purchase agreement. I swear, if that happens, I'm gonna make him pay me back the $1500 in earnest money and the $240 from the inspection.

It won't come to that, I'm sure. I hope. But still. Frustrating.

We need luck. I sent ANOTHER email to the PI this morning, and still haven't heard back.

What does it take to write: Get off my back, call this lady and bug HER instead!

Grrrr

And yes, I've been through the sign here and here and here and initial this and this and this. . . routine too many times. I should be doing hand exercises in preparation.

Add some vanilla extract to the paint. An interior designer gave me that tip. Tall ceilings, oooh I like that. Grand piano's, giant Christmas tree...and so on and so forth. Good luck on the paper work...*shivers*

I did fine for the first two rooms we painted upstairs, but by the time it came to painting the bathroom, it started getting bad. Even with the bathroom fan on, I still got woozy. The living room was the worst though, because there was just so damn much paint!

I know latex sensitivity is a built-up thing, and I think that applies over the short term (several rooms over a week) and the long (first personal exposure 10 years ago. . . gloves in the lab now).

I'm still a ways away from the anaphylactic shock response, but I don't know HOW FAR!

Sweetie! I'm house hunting! *whimpers* Hold my hand!
I may elect to take an apartment with a six month lease, though, so I can build up savings toward a down payment.

You don't have the written offer yet?? I couldn't even get a pre-approval letter without proof of the written offer. Get on their butts about that, pronto!!

Having $$ for a down payment is a good thing, but I just went ahead and got a 100% loan. That's an 80% plus a 20%. Two mortgages suck, but since I'm not going to be there for long (probably), it didn't make since to make a huge up-front investment.

It's also good if you have nothing to put down in the first place. If you do the split, you can avoid mortgage insurance - as in, if you die, your family won't get stuck with your mortgage. Probably the best way to go if you don't have any capital, is the 80/20. You can always refinance if you find yourself swimming in cash. But then again you can invest any free cash in the market or in home improvements and increase your worth that way.

I'll hold your hand, don't worry ;-)

I think we're giving Santa a raincheck. We'll probably celebrate Christmas around New Year's or something, at this rate :-) I have your copy of my dissertation, and will be sending it after I get Clay to sign it on the 18th. With any luck, we'll be "home" by then.

I'm going to post our new address once I'm sure we're not going to lose it to some stupid UIowa delay snafu.
