Happy Birthday, Mommy!!

In other news:
- we're getting lots and lots of snow
- I have a great desk here at home now, so I can nestle in my own little world whenever I please
- we got cable internet today. ZZZZZooooooooom!
- I have work to do. Bummer
- Thanks, Andrea! Love you :-)

I've already been asked to write (coauthor) a chapter for Current Protocols in Microbioloy. I found one of my articles (the cover one in Mol Micro) at the UI library today. Tres cool. Tomorrow, I'll go back and find the other one. My projects look really exciting. I've been given a couple of questions to work on, and my mind whirls with all the bonus questions I'll come up with once I get everything optimized and ready to go. It's going to be a ton of work, but we already know that Bronwyn loves that sort of thing. What's great about it is that the payoff is going to be good no matter what, and it has the potential to be downright inyourface groundbreaking.

At least, as far as the pathogenesis, cystic fibrosis and microbial biofilms world is concerned. The rest of you will say, "What? How dull!"

I'm too lazy to pull and process pictures right now. Besides, I should be working and not playing with my brand new innerweb. So, here's a linky dink to the pictures from my graduation day. Be sure to check out my Monty Python tribute :-)

Edit: Paul is an awesome, awesome man. The link will now take you to a directory where you can peek at the pictures from the comfort of any modem or innerweb device. So cool!
Behold the glory of academia. Or:
Pie jesu domine, dona eis requiem

If any of you are feeling iconalicious, I'd love an icon of me in my cap. I could use it for nerdy posts or annoying know-it-all comments. Never mind, Paul was sweet enough to make 'em for me :-)

That file is huge! You can knock it down to about 2 meg by just giving people the images!

So I did that. And trimmed them a little. And made you two icons in your little hat. I even made one of your guy friend. :)

Yeah, so I'm bored.

Clicky Clicky!

It's not all my fault!

My former advisor sent that link to me - he's guilty of the powerpoint monstrosity you saw there.

You rock! Linkydink will promptly be made modem-friendly.

Thank you so very much.

DAMMIT!

I was afraid I'd get that wrong. Obviously, the right words make a little more sense.

*sigh*

...I'm pretty sure you were right the first time. "Dominae es requiem" doesn't make much sense in latin... a female god (dominae) possessing something (the -ae suffix... I guess the goddess's something or other is resting?) meh. Also, "pie jesu domine, dona eis requiem" (roughly translated 'merciful lord Jesus, give them rest' which makes sense in the context of the movie, seeing as they're waltzing into frame behind a cart full of plague victims...woo!) are the lines from the Verdi "pie jesu."

Sorry, my latin fetish is showing.

Yeah, I thought that's what I was singing when my TU chorus sang Mozart's Requiem. . .

I wasn't certain, though, so meh.

No apologies necessary. Jeff also has a latin fetish. It nicely complements my Spanish fetish.

Yep, got the card day before yesterday. The mail people slaughtered the envelope, but card and Aero bar were undamaged.

:-)

Yummy

Phew. At least the chocolate didn't suffer.
I have a bag and a half left. Every so often Aero bars find their way to the suburbs of Chicago and I bought 4 bags (of 12 or 24, I think) the day after Halloween when they were cheap.

It certainly took long enough to get there. I sent it over two weeks ago.
