Don'tcha love it when it's so cold that when you wrap a scarf around your face, your nose hairs freeze to the scarf fuzz?

I'm just so glad that I bought a down-filled coat this year. It's going to pay for itself in cozy snuggly warmth all weekend.

I got to the lab this morning and took care of my cultures first thing. That's about 10 minutes of benchwork, and it's all I've got to do today. Benchwise, that is. The strains are from a Loyola lab and the experiment I'm going to run is only tangentially related to my own project. Ah well. I've done lots of experiments for other people in the past, and some of those turned out to be real annoyances (E. coli coyly disguised as Agro, for example), while others were (un?)welcome distractions from my own work.

This time, it was a joy just to handle the test tubes and pipetmen again, even if the pipetmen were borrowed. It's been almost 6 months since I did any benchwork, and I missed it! I've now had about an hour and a half of benchy stuff in two days, and I'm like an addict. GIMME MORE

Time for coffee and something baked. I made lunch this morning, but no breakfast. Gotta feed my caffeine monkey.

Hm. I'd use my new nerd icon (one of two gifted to me by Paul and Nadene), but I'd rather use the ol' bikini shot. Today's a day to remember what tropical breezes feel like :-)
