Feel the burn
Apr. 4th, 2005 08:50 amI have a suntan!
Ok, it's bordering on a burn, but considering how pasty I was to begin with it looks as though my skin is in some sort of melanin shock. Pinky-blotchy-browny or other. It's not all that attractive, really, though I do prefer it to the pasty whiteness I usually sport.
We dug up about 50,000 irises this weekend, 8000 tulips and 300 hyacinths. I shit you not.
We have about 25,000 irises more to go.
Seriously. The people who owned this house before us were L-A-Z-Y and, I would venture, a little stupid to boot, considering the rotted cat bed and car floor mat we found under the front stoop. No wonder our entryway smelled like an ancient litterbox. EW.
We now have a pretty flower bed in our front yard, with a magnolia, columbines, soon-to-be liatris, relocated and rescued irises, tulips and hyacinths, salvia and pink dianthus. Oh, and some pretty hostas for under the front window. We even mowed the front lawn.
We are the only people in the entire neighborhood with a front garden. Proud me.
Our backyard is still a disaster area, what with all the ripped up crap from the front and back being piled up everywhere waiting for bundling mulching and disposal, BUT we did finish off our Sunday by installing my disappearing fountain. I'd take a picture, but the surroundings don't do it justice yet. It sounds nice though, and the birds and dog will enjoy it, I'm sure.
I told Jeff that since we installed the fountain this means of course that Things1and2 will definitely make us move now. *shrug* Oh well. We'll just dig it up and move it. Again. I loves me my fountain.
Next up, hanging baskets to go on either side of the garage. Instant curb appeal, but I get to take 'em with me. I like that kind of investment!
Edited to add an aside: 24 is on tonight. We're in the third quarter of the season, which means a whole lot of eye-rolling and oh puhleez and can we get back to some sort of coherent PLOT please? is going on. At this point, I watch it for the joys of the recaps at Television Without Pity. Is that bassackward? This show is just so much fun to pick on!

In April.
I envy your sunburn a little bit even if it can lead to cancer.

Believe me, any cancer-causing damage was done long, long ago :)
