I'm pathetic
Jan. 16th, 2003 08:59 amI just realized (while posting comments at my friends journals) that I post comments more than I post posts.
How sad. Is it that other people's lives are more interesting? Or is it that other people's lives are more interesting to talk about? I mean really - do y'all really want to hear about the bottles of reagents I forgot to take out of the 4-degree this morning?
........
They're out now :-) And the 72 tubes of samples I'm going to process once everything's thawed and ready are out on the bench too.
I haven't had much to say this week - I've been working on another one of those 72-hour timecourses. Funny how this one actually worked out so that in the end I actually have 72 samples to process. In between, though, I've processed a WHOLE LOT of other little tubies. So many that I now have a very sore white spot on my thumb that protests at every attempt to open, well, everything (toothpaste tubes, shampoo bottles, barrettes, you name it!) and the nail bed of my ring finger is swollen too. If you've never worked in a lab, you will have no idea how this could happen, so just go with me here :-) It's all part of workin' at the bench. Think of it as the carpal tunnel syndrome of the bench scientist.
---------
Just got off the phone with a technical support guy from Applied Biosystems. I'd called him yesterday and left a voicemail message, but he called back after I'd gone home for my dinner break. He hadn't understood my name (big surprise) so when he called back, Thomas didn't know he was asking for me :-) So I called back this morning and left another voicemail message. Well, Jay (technical support guy) just called me back and apologized and asked again for the pronunciation of my name after I'd answered, "Fuqua lab, this is Bronwyn"
I explained it's Bron - as in the paper towels - and win - as in you're winning something. I think he got it.
Some people get it right off the bat. Others. . . . not so much.
---------
Well, it's 21 degrees outside and we're supposed to get several inches of snow today. We've gotten a dusting so far - a dusting, people - and they've already delayed and canceled some schools. Pathetic. And Dave actually beat me to work this morning!
Banner day, boys and girls! Banner day!
----------
ps. I really really really want to go to the Toad the Wet Sprocket concert in Indy at the end of February. It's $20 general admission. I wonder if I can find another Toad fan to go with me?

Date: January 16th, 2003 07:24 am (UTC)I finally told my students that my last name rhymes with supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and then they remember that it's Kocias and not Ko-see-ahs or Ko-sai-us or Ko-chis or Ko-kai-is.... But really. Bronwyn? It sounds like it looks!

Yay!!!!!!!!! (Said the girl who grew up in the Snow Belt, where the words "lake effect" have nothing to do with romance... (; )

Ooooo.... I'll have to see if I'm not having to take over someone's lab review section for anatomy...
The details
Date: January 16th, 2003 08:40 am (UTC)Anywhoo. . . I wanna go see them pretty badly. I didn't even realize they'd broken up. I just thought it had been a while since I'd heard from them!

Date: January 16th, 2003 10:29 am (UTC)How hard is "Bronwyn"? It's phonetic, isn't it? The only alternative I could think of is "Bron-wine" but what kind of a name is that? Bronwyn comes from Branwen, the Welsh goddess of love and beauty. I know this because I used to chose goddess names for online nicknames/handles and used "Bronwyn" for awhile. What a fitting name for our Bronwyn.

Hey Bronny-bronze (I love how Corto calls you "Sugar-Bronze". So cute.):
Our lives are boring too. We just post about them more often. :)
