Date: April 29th, 2005 03:02 pm (UTC)I propose that the rest of the country drop DST, and we all live by the sun. (;

Date: April 29th, 2005 03:22 pm (UTC)Naw, I agree. I think the backing and forthing is silly. I'd like to do away with it, too.
Then of course there's a jackass who thinks we should extend it. (http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/consumerawareness/a/dstextend.htm) Check the fidiot logic.

hello?
Hi honey! Did you see xyz on "TV show"?
Mom. It's not on yet, but thanks for the spoiler.
Oh! No! I'm sorry! Wait, but we're on the same time right now, aren't we?
Yes, but that means that my shows are inline with the Eastern time zone, even though my clock is inline with you, in the Central time zone
Aw, shit. Stupid Indiana!
Happened all the time. Half the year, we could watch stuff together. The other half, we could watch network together but not cable. ?!?
Then there were too-early or too-late phone calls made both ways. 6 years of temporal frustrations :)

Date: April 29th, 2005 08:20 pm (UTC)Actually you got that backwards. In the winter all tv shows in Indiana are sync'd with both Eastern and Central time zones (because central always shows everything an hour earlier, as you know). But in the winter, the rest of the Eastern and Central time zones remain completely in sync, and thus the cable stations (which are broadcast from out of state) reamin in sync with the rest of the time zones as well... BUT since we don't change our clocks, the local broadcasts (i.e. the non-cable networks) continue broadcasting at their "normal" time, which happens to be an hour later than the rest of the Central and Eastern time zones. So, the "live" Nightly News? yeah, we get it pre-recorded and broadcast an hour after it happened all damn summer long. stupid fucking indiana.

Date: April 29th, 2005 07:11 pm (UTC)I'll just sit here and continue nursing my pipe dream that the rest of the country will realize the idiocy of DST and drop it altogether.
in the meantime, let's hope and pray (if praying's your thing) that the DOT decides to leave the timezones intact. No offense to you CST-dwellers, but I do not want to switch over to the central time zone: I like prime-time TV starting at 8:00, and I don't want the sun rising at 3 am in the summer and setting at 3pm in the winter, thankyouverymuch.
