I'm glad it wasn't the total disaster it could've been. I'd like to return to New Orleans someday.

But this just made me shake my head: "It's blustery. You can see the speed of it now, it's unbelievable," he said. "The power went out about an hour and a half ago and so now I'm just watching the occasional dumbass walking down Canal Street."

*sigh* stupid people

I was watching some of the coverage and every now and then you'd see a car go by. Um, yeah, I'd be out driving around in my CAR during a frickin' HURRICANE!

We had some big flooding in Texas when I was living in San Antonio ('98 or '99). Something like 14" in a few hours fell over the city. Much of Houston was submerged, but San Antonio was just as bad, even though we were inland.

In any case, a faculty wife wanted me to help with her son's birthday party. Being the promise-keeper that I tend to be, I tried to get there. In one direction, I was turned back by waters that were lapping over the overpass. I wasn't about to go under that :) In the other direction, a cop in waders turned me back.

I knew I couldn't make it, but I tried because I wanted to see how far I could get. Note to self: Driving through former quarries is impossible during a flood.

Duh.

Still, the woman was angry that I didn't show up. !

Sorry, Mrs. S. I haven't got an ark.
