Ok, so it is bad. Unimaginably bad.

I don't know what to say. I hope New Orleans will rise again - the French Quarter at least (so far) is the least damaged part of the city, so something of what most of us remember is still there. That's some good fortune to hold onto, and a spot of hope that might help the rest of the city come back.

It was only a matter of time, of course, but the whackadoodles (aka Repent America and associated friends) are already proclaiming this the work of an angry God. Never mind that the mayor has worked hard to wipe out corruption in the city. Never mind that the whackadoodles' "target" audience weren't in town yet for the Southern Decadence festival. Yes, the whackadoodles are blaming yon gay folke and oh yes, abortion clinics, for the disaster. They think the people of New Orleans deserved to have their beautiful city destroyed. I wonder what reason the God of Whackadoodles had to destroy all those other towns on the coast and along Katrina's path? Did He forget about all the Southern Baptists that were in the way? Any self-respecting God ought to have better aim and better timing, don't you think?

It's so fucking ridiculous. If I were a Christian (which I am not), I'd be beyond livid that people who call themselves my representatives (and hold themselves up as no less than God's representatives) would be so cruel, callous, presumptuous and decidedly UN-Christian.

Makes me so mad, I can't even . . . I just. . . ARGH
How's that for eloquent?

And no, I'm not going to post links to any of that garbage. I'm upset enough that I polluted my own eyes and mind with that filth, I'm not about to spread it. I gotta go. I'm too angry now.

The "whackadoodles" don't deserve you thoughts or energy, Ms B. Still, I'm glad you wrote this.

You are quite right.

There are friends and former friends and family in the area, and a whole lot of memories for me. Especially around Gulfport and Biloxi, up to Jackson - which I assume is ok, haven't heard - it's just so hard to wrap my brain around it.

So while feeling helpless, it's insane to hear someone say this was in any way deserved or premeditated.

I mean. . . what?!?
I know, you're right. Let it go.

People are nuts, the problem is, they're never the good kind. They're filberts and the other nuts that people leave in the can.

It helps to beat my wife to the container. She's fond of cashews.

That article you linked to at fox in another post was good, very well said.

I hope mister arabian horse breeder gets his ass fired. I really do. Of course Bush will put some other idiot in there. I can't believe we have three more years of this crap. Sigh. I still have to reply to your post to me and I will promise but probably not tonight...

Don't sweat it. . . I'm tired of talking about the whole thing. It's not as though my talking about it will do anything useful.
