So I'm driving back in to work tonight. . . it's 6:30 and rush hour, such as it is, is in full swing here in B-town. . . and yet again I'm thrown into spasms of ire for anyone in the 18-22 age group.

Why?

Well ire point number one: 30,000 extra people take up a lot of space and make this little town seem very very cramped and crowded. I'm a spoiled only child and I like my space - I get snarky when other people invade it.

Ire point number two: I nearly ran over a girl who nonchalantly stepped out into the road, right in front my car, and stopped - yapping away on the phone. I should've honked, but I was just in shock at her stupidity. She is the epitome of the vacuum dweller.

I don't remember there being so many stupid people when I was an undergrad. I certainly don't remember ever being that stupid. But then I started doing the math. Not all of the 30000 rugrats here are stupid, just as all 1500 of us at Trinity were not stupid. I think the proportion of stupid-to-smart people is basically the same. It's just that here, there are 20 times more of them.

And, my building is right across the street from a long row of fraternity and sorority houses. In other words, the mindless drone-types are concentrated right here.

I'll get over the pain in a week or two. It takes time to get over the shock of such upheaval after the peaceful serenity of summer.

I hear ya, Bronwyn!

They kind of remind me of Canada geese. We had a flock of them at Edinboro University, where I did my undergrad and first round of grad school.... a 4-acre lake, with a flock of 500 geese. They'd wander into the road and look at you... and if you honked your horn at them, they'd honk right back.
