Happy New Year!

We stayed up last night watching Alexander, not because we liked it, but because I think we were waiting for it, hoping for it, to get better. It didn't.

At any rate, we stayed up to "Hmm it's 2006" in the New Year, and watched a few fireworks from our patio door. Our last day in 2005 was a good one, actually. I went in to work for about 20 minutes, Jeff and dad finished up a bit more of the tile work, and then we hit the road for the Amana colonies. We hit a great antiques/quilt shop first, where mom and dad held back from an impulse buy - a beautiful, rich red quilt for their bed. They're pondering it. I strolled through rooms filled with bolts of fabric and thought, "I could do this. And I'm just sick enough that I'd do it all by hand." I held back, though, thinking (wisely) that I should finish the afghan first, and maybe put in some more needle time on my Matisse cross-stitch, before I leap into quilting. We then hit our favorite antiques mall - the one that sucked Jeff and me in for 2 and a half hours on our first visit. This time we got there right before close, but were allowed to stay a half hour. Nice lady! I inquired about some Bunnykins figurines I'd seen last time. One I have, two I don't. I bought one ("Poorly Peter") with $60 of my Christmas money, and left the others to ponder. The one I really want ("Appley Dapply") is $250! I'm going to call and see if I can bargain a little with the seller.

Then we came home and mom and I hopped on the intarweb to see how valuable my bunnykins collection could possibly be! Holy moly, my dear Gramma Louise knew what she was doing! She gave me all the figurines I have, and most of them are highly valued. I had no idea. Thank you, Gramma!

We had dinner at a Chinese restaurant we've been meaning to visit since we moved here a year ago. Now we're kicking ourselves for waiting so long :) After that, we took our food comas home, relaxed, and I baked more cookies. Of course, I crochet'd a few more squares, too.

Seriously, I'm totally itching to quit this whole science gig to become a sewing gal. I figure, if I can get my folks up to Kentucky to start a business, they can hang out outside doing all the plant stuff while I hang out inside running the gift shop (selling Chris' pictures and Lori's soaps and bath salts and anything the rest of you creative wonders could wish to sell) and crafting myself silly.

I'm sure some of you are looking at me funny now, but I'm really serious about this. I'm ready to be domestic.

So long as "domestic" doesn't mean doing floors and windows. Or ironing. I hate ironing.

Of course, I say this, and yet one of my first resolutions for the year is to prepare to take the Patent Bar Exam. I need money first, but I really want to do it. I'm not sure how my domesticity urge fits in with my urge to enter into patent law, but I never claimed to make much sense.

As with every year, I enter 2006 with thoughts that this year simply must be better than the last. I sure hope so. I have a big pile of hopes for this year.

if what you were doing left you with a bad taste in your mouth for the year, then the key to improved relations with your future memories is change. :)

So... the "parent bar exam" eh... do you have to study for nine months for that one?

Well yes, I'd like to be in the family way before 2006 is out, but we'll have to see. And I'm always willing to study for the PaRent Bar exam :)

The PaTent bar exam, on the other hand, should only take a couple of months of good hard work before I'm ready. Now, gaining admission to take the test, not to mention paying for the privilege, are a whole other story!

bwaahahaha... I'm sooo sorry... hahaha... I honestly read "Parent Bar Exam" like it was a cute joke you were playing with words...

So... good luck with the patent bar exam. :)

Oh HELL yes!

You could whip up all sorts of little goodies like that. We could make them into fridge magnets, pins. . . It would be a nice source of extra income for you.

Wait. No income is "extra" in our worlds.

Me too! Only, I have to be able to concentrate for it. Crochet, not so much brain power required :)

Ever thought about publishing your Furboa comics in hard copy?

Yeah that's why I also prefer knitting long boring scarves!

Aw thanks! I haven't really looked into the publishing thing much. i looked a while back and it was so expensive for full-color books and I didnt' want the books to be expensive. I migth try to see what they are like in black and white. I'm actually making a few little photocopied and hand colored books for a convention I'm going to. i'll let you know when they are done! They won't be too fancy but it will have the whole tadpolites story!

Hey, cool! If you ever want help in the "colorist" department, let me know! I'm still a total kid when it comes to crayons, colored pencils and pens and coloring books. I can't draw to save my life, but I can color!

I know someone who set up a small - very small - publishing company. I can look into it, if you'd like. It was actually a company set up to publish Wil Wheaton's books: Monolith Press. Just a thought. Yes, the internet is a small, small world.

Actually you just gave me the greatest idea! I am working on a book of Let's Learn Abouts for a convention in June and cartoonist friends are illustrating LLA!'s they like...and then other friends are just drawing random illustrations and I'm writing a LLA! based on the pictures but NOW I think it would be super fun to have a "full-color" middle! Friends (like you!) that don't liek to draw but like to color can just color a few pages each and every finished book will have like three colored pages in the middle! I think that would be hysterical. Woudl you really want to do it? I would just mail you the pages with a return postage envelope and we have a LONG time to work on it!

Oh, I'd love it if you could look into the Monolith Press even if they could just give me advise I'd be really appreciative!

Yes. I'd love to! On both counts.

I'll make photocopies to practice on, first :)

And I'll write to Russ and cc Wil to see if they'd be interested - send 'em a link to your page, make a little introduction. We'll see what they say. I'll give them your contact info so they can reach you directly after that. . . just send your preferred addy thinger to my gmail acct. (nywnorb at)

Thank you. I'm pretty happy, overall. Just antsy and sorta discontented, if that makes any sense.

Happy New Year.

I'm ready to be domestic.

Awww.
Could be hormones or maybe those maternal urges kicking in.

I hope that 2006 is great for you and that all of your hopes come true.
