36w3d gripefest
Mar. 8th, 2007 10:01 amI've been measuring small for the past several weeks, and the doctor wants to keep an eye on SamPat to make sure he's still alright. I went for my 36w1d appointment on Tuesday, and when I told the office staff that Doc S. had said he wanted me to have an u/s they just looked at me like I had horns coming out of my forehead. "Why?!?" they asked, incredulously. "Because I'm measuring small, and he wants to check up on the baby," I replied. After calling over another of the staff so she could add her incredulous look to those of the first two, the woman who spoke said she would write me a ticket - which I guess is officespeak for "Squeeze you in". She didn't tell me for what time, she didn't say she'd call me. It was 3pm and my appointment with Doc S was at 3:20. Doc's assistant called me back pretty quickly and did the vitals and pee thing, and I went to sit in the inner waiting room. Hubby arrived and we waited and waited and waited. 4:20, the doc arrives and asks how the u/s went. "They wouldn't give me one," I said. Doc got angry (although he never loses his composure) and told us that, not only had they double booked him all day, but that I was the second woman for whom they'd screwed up the u/s. He was really upset about it, and sent Mo (the assistant) to go see about my GBS results and what happened to the u/s. She came back and informed us that everyone had gone. Doc was even more pissed. Then when I go to check out, the lady says that I was scheduled in for an u/s at 3:08. "Well that's nice, but no one bothered to get me for it." She, of course, had no reply.
I swear, if it turns out they marked me as a No Show, I'm going to have some words for those women.
Turns out the other woman who didn't get her u/s was 20 weeks - an u/s should have been the default and they should have known that.
This is the second time they've screwed with me over an u/s, too. So now we're all cheesed off about it. I love Doc S and don't want to change doctors, but his office staff has got to be shaped up. All I ever hear from them is bitching and griping about this, that and the other thing. . . totally unprofessional and certainly not what patients should have to listen to.
I've decided to be far more assertive with them from now on. For instance, when they were snarking at me on Tuesday I should have told them to get off their butts and go ask the doctor.
ANYway. My tummy is only measuring 33cm. I've not gained any weight, and my tummy hasn't grown. SamPat is still moving around though, and he's always up for Judo practice at 3am. I'm sure he's fine, but I'd like to be sure. Doc's on vacation until Monday, but I went ahead and scheduled a standalone u/s for 3:20 today because I want the peace of mind. I'll be sure to point out to the staff that I had to take time off work AGAIN because of their screwup. Not that they'll care.

Date: March 8th, 2007 04:52 pm (UTC)Nurses & staff unfortunately, can make or break a clinic. I first went to this huge OB/Midwife clinic and was severely dissatisfied with both the midwifes and the nurses...I tried the OBs and they sucked too. I then heard of a new, private clinic that broke off from this very one I was dissatisfied with and signed on with them at about 28 weeks prego with my first baby. I haven't looked back. The staff all-around treats pregnant mamas like queens and routine (3D, even) US are done without question by the techs. It sounds like even your doc is exasperated with his staff?

My doc is exasperated with his staff, which is good. If he'd blown it off as nothing, I'd be looking for another doctor. Now I know I can stand up for myself with the staff and rat them out to my doctor, or even to his assistant, Mo, if I want to. Mo's cool. She held my hand when the doc did the cervical check. I know it hurts normally, but I think the hernia makes it hurt even more.
Jeff was in the room too, and his eyes went big as dinner plates, poor guy. He's witnessed a pap smear - part of my effort to get him used to these things so L&D doesn't blow him completely out of the water - but this was beyond even that :)

Date: March 9th, 2007 01:10 pm (UTC)They were ok yesterday though, but it looked as though there were just a couple of women there. Not enough for a full-on catty coven, you know?
