Shameless stolen survey, aka The Procrastinator )

In other news, I've been running around like a chicken with her head cut off today. Lab class began today (thanks so much for telling me, Professor!!) and I had to miss it for an appointment with my neurologist. It's still going on now, so I can go over there and check it out and not do benchwork, or I can do benchwork and say screw it to the class. I'm not supposed to teach it today, anyway. Feh.

I'm also zzzzzippping up a HUGE passel of data to be moved over the spiffy cool Massive Data Storage Service. It's taken over 3 hours so far to zip these files, and WinZip is only about half-way done. THEN I get to actually ftp the zip file over to MDSS so I can start processing the other half of my data. *eye roll* I'm not having fun yet, in case you were wondering.

I've been writing the KSA responses for that CDC application. I really don't know if I'm on the right track. Do they really want ALL of my experiences that demonstrate my ability to communicate orally and in writing? Everything from town council meetings and that radio spot to presentations at professional meetings? Everything from writing for my college paper as a Chief Copy editor to writing grant proposals and my first manuscript? And those are just the (D)esirable KSAs. There're still the (M)andatory ones.

*freaks out*

Did I mention that if I want to graduate in August, I have to wrap up the bulk of my research in the next three months? I have to drop one aspect of my research so I can focus on the other two main aspects. Hard to let go, Hard to imagine I'm so close.

*freaks out some more*

So what do you do when your computer is busy tar'ing approximately 27 GB of data? You can't go home for the night, no. Someone might steal your laptop.

What, you're tired and hungry? Tough titties.

Oh well, I guess all you can do is go checkout the latest Strongbad e-mail. Then play the games at the end. Yep. I can feel the few brain cells I have left dying as we speak. I guess we won't be vacuuming the house tonight, will we?

Maybe I'll still be able to eat my leftovers for a late late dinner before crashing in bed to start all over at 6am tomorrow.

*tummy growl*

In other, brighter, better news. . . My Jeffrey is coming home tomorrow night!!! He leaves China at about midnight our time (that's Eastern right now, I think) and will get back to Louisville at 8:30 tomorrow night. I wish he were flying into Indy so I could pick him up and hug him and squeeze him and call him George.

Nope. I'll just have to wait until Wednesday to see him. Le sigh.

Edited to add: Went home, ate leftover spaghetti and garlic bread, smoothed over nicely with a glass of Pinot Grigio (Talus 2001 - very apple-y. Good, but not my favorite.). Fed my cats, who swore up and down that they were in danger of starving to death, and took a shower. Came back to find my tar.gz file is up to 8.64GB and still isn't finished.

Greeeeeeat.

So I'll sit here and listen to my music and try not to think about my love getting on a big ol' plane in just under 2 hours and wait. Wait wait wait.

At 10.06GB and counting, am I really compressing anything?
10:40pm and I'm still at work. I have to be back here in. . . 9 hours. This better be done soon. Lord, I still need to transfer the tar.gz file over to the MDSS for the robots to play with.

I think I'll save that step for morning.

10.17GB and still going. . . relatively speaking, it's almost done.

I hope.

Edited to add: I just read "tar.gz file" as tar-jizz file and nearly snorted water out my nose. I must be tired, even my gutter-thought brain cells are losing it. 10.3GB

Edit #2 10:45 pm and it's finished!!! 10.408657. . . gigs. *whew*!
And it only took, what, 3.5 hours?

Good night!
