8am - Plans for the day

Work on my cloning project
Take care of my workman's comp claim
READ!
Work on my paper
Go to journal club at 12:20
Go to seminar at 4
Start designing an experiment I've been thinking about. Put something down on paper.

Oh. And I'm getting a message "NTLDR is missing. Hit any key to restart." when I startup. I thought I'd fixed it with a system restore on Friday, but the problem resurfaced this morning. Grrrrr. Waiting for advice from Dell, hoping to avoid disaster. I think I'm going to make backups today on my server just in case - my recent data and my paper, stuff that hasn't been burned to CD or otherwise backed up yet. *sigh* Just what I need, right? Another dead computer. Let's hope that's not what happens here. Any advice or insight from the computer geeks in the crowd?

----

I've got tons of other stuff I need to do, but there's only so much I can do in a day. Let's see if I can manage this list effectively.

Ready. Set. Go!

Funny, I don't feel older. I just feel closer to my goals and less ready to be there (AAAAA) ;-)

Edit: Well, it's 5:30 now. I managed to get some of the things taken off my list. . . fixing the damn computer took too much time. And I spent some time playing the birthday girl, too. Oh well. I'm going to take this book home and work on it there. Over dinner. I'm STARVING!! Can't even complete a sentence. *grunt*

to our PC hardware specialist. He keeps all of us up and running. I'll let you know what he says - of course, I haven't seen him today - hope he is here.

Have a wonderful birthday! *hug*

Hello, this is sinnie's husband. I work in computers, and I know one way to solve this issue, but the answer depends on what operating system you're running. If it's windows 2000 professional, well actually that or xp home or pro, so not so much the os you run... Anyways, what you're going to need to do is pop in your Operating System CD (windows 2000 pro, windows xp home or pro) and boot from it by pressing any key when prompted. At that point it'll ask you if you want to repair your current operating system or install a fresh copy. You want to repair. I cannot stress this enough REPAIR. And then do a manual repair, and only select the "Boot Loader" or "Master Boot Record" option to be repaired. Nothing else. Then run it through, reboot, remove the cd, and boot. It should be fixed. If it isn't, there's something else going on there. Do you have an anti-virus with the most current definitions? There's a lot of virii that hit the boot sector of hard drives.

*shakes her head and sighs* Oh how I wish I'd found your message two hours ago :-)

I did everything you just said to do. . . EXCEPT I repaired everything. Not just the Boot Loader. Yep. Didn't know I had that little manual option there, nosiree.

Oh well. We were having a little lab birthday party, so it's not as though I was staring forlornly at my computer the whole time.

The downside is that I couldn't find my own XP CD, so I had to use the department's CD and now I've got a different reg. than before and I have to reinstall my DVD-ROM driver *shrug* whenever I can get it back from my friend who has it (or download it from the website, whichever comes first).

Oh, the flummoxations I didn't need today :-)

Eh. It should be fine now.

You know, it was kind of like pulling a table cloth out from under a beautiful table setting. . . and then putting it back.

And yes, I do have an updated anti-virus. I'm going to go make sure I have all the other updates I need (Service Pack 1 - installed before, gonna make sure I still have it) and all sorts of other goodies.

So much for that list, eh?

Thanks, Jeff!!

...I'm the friend who HAD her stupid cd rom and can I tell you the grief this woman gave me. No thanks for the birthday present I left on her desk, just "Where's my damn CD?"

You know, I should be asking "Where are all the DVDs you borrowed from us?" but I won't... ;D

adrienne

Yeah, well back atcha!

I want you all to know there is smoke coming out of this woman's pants :-D

I have ONE DVD from her. Citizen Kane. And ONE book. She has two books of mine and she's returned the DVD. So we're even-steven. Hah.

And I thanked her muchly-profusely for my birthday-prezzies.

So there.

Hah.

*sigh*

Adrienne likes to reprimand me. I don't know why, but she does. I think she's 80% kidding and 20% serious. Maybe I've got the proportions wrong. Who knows? We all know I think too much and none of you have come back to read this, so I'm just babbling to myself anyway. *grin*
