We heard Spawn's heartbeat on Wednesday morning - it was in the 170s, which is substantially higher than it ever was for Samuel. I consider this additional evidence that Spawn is, in fact, female.

Only time (approximately 6 months) will tell.

In the meantime, I believe we must officially declare Samuel's Toddlerhood. He is walking on his own now, and covers quite a good distance - a dozen steps or so - before needing support.

Birthday cake!

And lastly, the promised video...

And to round out this post with something that gets my hackles up something fierce, witness yet more evidence to bolster my desire to homeschool our kids. Sheesh! (hat tip to Radley Balko)

I highly support Spawn as a nickname.

Are you going to try to find out Spawn's sex before birth, or are you going to wait and be surprised?

We're going to do our durnedest to wait. We wanted to wait with Samuel, but during one ultrasound he gave himself away by playing himself :)

I do want this one to be a surprise.

I had a very fast heartbeat, and the doctors pronounced me female. (Perhaps this was before the age of ultrasounds?) My parents were convinced they were having a girl. My mother refused to believe the doctor when he handed her a boy. She said, "This isn't my baby! I'm having a girl!" (She'd been unconcscious for my actual birth.)

They didn't have a boy's name picked out. I wasn't named until my 3rd day, when the nurses said, "We can't send this baby home until we've filled out the birth certificate! Name him now!!"

Good thing I was a boy too. They were going to name me Lorelei. *shudder*

Holy god, did you see that cat try to eat your toddler? Good thing he scared it off.

The still shot that begins the video made me say aloud AWWWWwwwwww. He is just too cute. The cat is pretty cute, too.

Hey, lady, you're going to have your hands full for the next three years. At least Samuel used to STAY whereever you left him.
