Golly, I've been a busy girl. I went to Ron Paul's booksigning on Saturday, then spent almost two hours at a fabric shop. It was practically heaven, but for the prices and yes, although it was packed with beautiful fabrics, I wanted more. They carry Moda for the most part, and a little Michael Miller and Windham. Far too little of the latter two, unfortunately, and I didn't see any Robert Kaufman/Amy Schimler fabrics.
Ah well, I'm probably better off just buying on the internet.
I did come away with several yards of fabric though, all fit to serve as backing for my great-grandmother's old quilt tops.
On Sunday, after a productive shopping trip for maternity clothes, I came home and made two stroller quilts from one of those old quilt tops. They came out rather well, and they seem to be catching attention. Maybe a few more such quilts on my virtual shop shelves will convince someone to buy.
Otherwise, life has been full of Samuel and work and freshening up my etsy storefront. Jeff's been looking at house plans, lately, too. It seems we're both working hard to get ourselves to that future we've been hoping for.

Date: May 22nd, 2008 05:08 pm (UTC)The Ron Paul movement confuses me. I honestly don't understand the composition of his supporters. He's a Republican, but wants to protect the environment. He wants the government to butt out of stem cell research, but wants the government to butt into abortion. He has a Democrat's view on privacy, but a Republican's view on immigration.
Not that I disapprove -- I've often said that the idea that everyone's values on all issues can be neatly placed in one of two groups is laughable -- but it's just weird to see coffee shops and interstate farmhouses touting the same candidate.

He's a Republican of the old sort. Think Taft. Think even farther back, to what Jefferson et al had to say about foreign intervention. It's not the "isolationist" viewpoint that it's been labeled. One could more coherently argue that the Bush approach has been isolationist insomuch as we have become the pariah of the planet.
I recommend reading his book. It lays things out more clearly than anything else I've seen and is chock-full of Oh Wow! quotations.
(one that sticks out is Madeleine Albright saying that the half-million dead Iraqi children as a result of the sanctions were "worth it") O_o
