Writing two manuscripts and a grant at the same time. And where's my muse? Oh, she left the building and went on vacation a few weeks ago. Bitch is probably sunning herself on a beach right now.

Writing these things is like pulling teeth without any Novocaine.

And to think I used to enjoy writing, too. After two years of nothing but, I've had it up to the proverbial Here with it.

Why is all the work going on at the same time? You've got a lot going on.

Actually, there's another grant, too, but I've delegated the hell out of that one so all I have to do (essentially) is plug and chug once everyone turns in their assignments.

The two manuscripts are for a special journal volume and were due in, um, March? I'm not the sole holdup though, so I don't feel too bad.

The grant I'm actively working on is due August 5.

Just a big freakin' pileup O_o At this point, maternity leave is gonna be like a vacation!

Thank you, I appreciate that, but at this point I'm more in need of a ghostwriter :)

I do that, too.

Seriously -- let me know. I finish up one project tonight, and then have some time before anything looks to be happening.

well, i need some background on decision aids for pain management
as in, i'm a doctor - how do I decide what drug and dosage of codeine/fentanyl/whatevr to give to my patient so that their pain is relieved and i don't kill them?

right now, I know whatever's out there doesn't include genetics, which is what I'm trying to build to.

there's something by Naranjo but I can't for the life of me find it.

basically, it's This is what pain mgemt looks like now, and here's what's missing. And the what it looks like now is where I'm blanking out. No good reason, just my brain isn't cooperating

*sigh*

why yes, I think that's it! It serves well to go to the point of, "yeah, that's great if the patient's had ADRs in the past, but it doesn't do jack to help with a naive patient" :)

you don't by any chance have access to the pdf, do you? My lack of access is one of the things I hate about no longer being in the academic setting!

*kisses you*

what i can't believe is that it's from '92

i've got two problems - does anybody use Naranjo's decision tree? Is there a more recent version?

There will be... *ahem* ... but I need to find if there's anything in between theirs and the soon-to-be ours.

I'm currently writing papers, and grants too. I can't remember the last time I wasn't writing one or the other, especially grants. Science is now....writing

'the current methods suck, we can do better'

over and over....the fact that the last grant was to create super new, all singing-all dancing methods that now suck....and that they never actually got used, ever. Thats now irrelevant. Progress is doing 'new' things!

science is writing

Ain't that the truth! Writing and hand-waving and begging for money. You hardly have time to DO anything for all the talking about what you want to do.

I could put that 'current methods suck...' line in everything I'm working on right now.

*sigh* I knew you'd understand!

That's the only consolation... that at some point, these things will be behind me. Of course, some other grant will rear its ugly head shortly thereafter :-/

Gotta talk to the boss about it.

You need a break!
