Although it wouldn't seem that way.

I overslept, and awoke to Jeff patting my arm. I was further delayed by having to get gas for the car - I hate doing it in the morning, but with an air quality warning today, I didn't want to be stuck doing it this afternoon. My commute was lengthened even more by the train at RJ Corman, which was playing musical tracks at 8:01.

All this before I pulled in to the alley at work, where I found a swarm of firemen (the fire station is next door to us in the alley) around a blazer which had gone astray. I didn't linger long, because my coworkers were already there and I knew somebody needed to come in and mind the lab. From what I heard, the driver had a seizure, crossed the alley, swiped a parked car, took out a sign, smashed into the back of a parked car (knocking it into the little green parking median) and into a tree.

A woman was crying in the passenger seat of another car - it seems she was a passenger in the wayward truck.

Instinctive desires to rubberneck aside, I didn't want to hang out to learn more.

Still, I feel a little lucky this morning, which is good considering I took my car in yesterday for an oil change and learned that my 16,000 miles- and not even a year old Michelins are bald as cue balls.

O_o

I'm not in the mood for forking over 1000 to get new tires AGAIN, but I'm sure Ken Towery will have some excuse for why the tires they sold me are not under warranty.

So I'm driving on bald tires and borrowed time, but at least I didn't get smashed this morning.

Good grief. It's a good thing you're a sack hound.

I imagine you're going to raise hell about being sold defective tires?

As soon as I have the time, and after I've finished raising hell about the grant documents my computer just ate.

If you'll pardon the phrase,

Are all four tires bad? Because if it's just two of them, you should go have your alignment checked too. I went through several tires (just figuring the originals were defective) before I realized what was going on.

It's very strange, but 3 out of 4 tires are flat-out bad. The one tire that's still ok is one of the originals.

Last year, I hit a guard rail to avoid plowing into a schmuck who'd crossed the center line. That fubar'd my suspension and my transmission and, of course, the two tires on the passenger side.

So I got two new tires and put 'em up front, putting the two originals on the back. The new tires have about 16k miles, the old ones have about 43k. The new ones are worn all the way down to the wear bars and are worn smooth in places.

I don't get how that can happen in 16k miles of driving, 14k of which is at 45 mph.

I think we'll stick it out with this car and tires until the baby arrives, then we'll look into getting a new family car. I know it's just tires, but we've had about $9000 worth of problems with this car (all transmission-related) and I'm not interested in spending more.

*pats head*

It's not a good tire day, apparently. I got a flat while at the gas station.

O_o I guess that's better than getting a flat while at speed, but still. ouch.
