Updates abounding
Sep. 17th, 2008 09:18 amFirst off, the good news. My placenta has moved well out of the way. Yay! Yes, now everyone can tell me I worried for nothing, but I always feel better when I've planned for contingencies. And I feel even better when none of those contingency plans see the light of day.
And baby's head is down - way down - all of which means I'm back in the realm of normal birth. Hoorah!
And I forgot to add that the u/s estimates Little Bit at 6 lbs 11 oz. That's 75th percentile... Samuel was in the 5-10th percentile when he was born. Yikes! I'm going to bank on that 20% error and hope Little Bit is really closer to the 50th. Hopehopehope
For those who care about such stats we're at 1 cm and 50% effacement, and I'm having contractions pretty much 24/7, but they aren't progressing. It's just uncomfortable and tiring, and all I want to do is sleep.
Oh, and I tripped when leaving The Nursing Station, which fortunately only threw my ankle out for 40 minutes, but threw my hip out for the rest of the day and night. Seems fine now. Last time, it was falling out of a chair that brought labor on. Maybe this time around, I'll trip on something. We'll see.
In spite of our generator acquisition, commercial power has not been restored, and the powers that be are still quoting us 10-14 days. Meanwhile, the newspaper is facilitating the gripe fest of those who claim discrimination and woe is me everybody else is getting power why not me? I guess to some people, their little world is all that matters and the grass is always greener on the other side. Never mind the fact that those in the more highly populated areas will get power long before those of us who live out in the country. That's the only "discrimination" that's going on. You won't hear me bitching about the unfairness of it all.
Not when people on the coast have *nothing* left.
I'm really baffled by the people complaining about their kids having "nothing to do". Is the concept of playing outside really dead? And besides, with no power, you just put the kids to bed at dusk with a flashlight and a book. It's really sad when the concept of play no longer extends beyond the length of cable on a game console.
We've got our fridge running, and only had to throw away the cold cuts and the milk. Our freezer thawed enough to turn our ice cream a little off, but I think the meats made it. I was able to feed the washer long enough to get my clothes rinsed and out to hang dry. The generator is beefy enough to handle the washer and dryer, but why waste the gas? So long as the fridges and freezer are running and the water heater has sufficient juice to fire up its gas burner, and the ejector pump has enough juice to handle the downstairs plumbing, we're ok. Thank goodness the weather has been nice, and the nights cool, so we can be pretty comfortable with the windows open.
Samuel misses the ceiling fans, and was extremely vocal about it last night. The kid screamed bloody murder for half an hour or so when we put him to bed because his ceiling fan isn't working. Yeesh. I miss it too, sweetheart, but it's not the end of the world.
Oh, and the hole in the roof is what remains when the only bit of siding on our entire house was ripped away. And it probably flew off so easily because it was (a) not attached to much of anything and (b) was attached by four nails which were (c) all in the same place. *shakes head* I swear the workers were drunk when they put up our roof. We've put in the call to the insurance company, but the $2500 wind damage deductible won't do us much good, I'm sure. As usual, the estimate will come back a few dollars shy of the deductible.
And so it always goes.
So here I sit at work, yawning.

Date: September 17th, 2008 03:28 pm (UTC)It sounds quite eventful, down there. I hope they do get your power back before too long. (I agree with you 100% on the whole playing-outside thing. Eesh!)

Date: September 17th, 2008 10:02 pm (UTC)With all our recent storms, we've been pleased it wasn't bad. a little inconvenient, yes, but no real trouble.
And Little One seems to have made all the necessary changes in your tummy for a perfect encore. Knowing that, I think you attitude could be nothing BUT good! I am so stoked to hear the predicted troubles will not materialize.
You're going to have great stories to tell the little one about Hurricane Ike's Unfortunate Appearance Right Before Little Bit's!
