I have played an active role in supporting the efforts of the Bryan Park Neighborhood Association to maintain the integrity of our neighborhood. Over the past few months, I have seen the Bloomington Plan Commission in session three times and have witnessed egregious behaviour by some of its members, two specifically. At the July 7 meeting, Kurt Zorn complained that, "I could be home at nine o'clock watching American Chopper, something like that" as opposed to being paid nothing to sit in a room for hours listening to people debate. Missing American Chopper is apparently too high an "opportunity cost" for this economist, as he takes every opportunity to remind us. At the August 11 meeting, BPNA President Bill Hayden stood to speak in response to a direct question from the Commission. When he did so, Commissioner Jonathan Heald blatantly turned in his seat. He sat with his back to Mr. Hayden and the public until Mr. Hayden sat down. It was the most childish and offensive display I have ever witnessed from a grown man in public office. Mr. Heald and Mr. Zorn should think about their actions and their words and should reconsider their positions on the Plan Commission if it's too much trouble for them to be patient and civil.
