Tooting my own horn
Jan. 8th, 2004 03:40 pmI'm working on my application for a job at the CDC in Atlanta. How many of you have written applications for Federal jobs? My word, is this ever difficult! See, they have these little things called KSAs. Those are Knowledge, Skills and Abilities requirements to which applicants are required to respond. For this job, it's all about Abilities.
1. The ability to plan, conduct and evaluate research studies in environmental microbiology.
2. Ability to conduct scientific studies involving microbial biofilms.
3. Ability to communicate in writing.
4. Ability to communicate orally.
At first glance, that may look easy, sure. USAJobs advises us to thoroughly address each of these KSAs, delving into every example of how and where we gained the required abilities. They want everything, folks, professional and otherwise. We're talking student council to professional presentations, poetry to journal articles. . . I've been brainstorming this afternoon and writing a list of everything I can think of that could apply to KSAs 3 and 4, and I'm finding that I've done a hell of a lot. Now, that hell of a lot may not be extraordinary when set beside the other applicants for this Microbiologist position (G-12, by the way!), but that obviously remains to be seen.
Dave, I may be tossing my list your way so you can tell me if I've missed anything :-) I hope Clay won't mind perusing my application, too.
Ok, gonna run to get coffee before the seminar. *zzzoooom!*
