The laser wasn't broken. The fiber optic cable was loose, so basically the laser was on, but was shooting off into the box somewhere instead of into the microscope. Barry the Excellent Dude of Microscopes said he'd done it and he fixed it for me. 1h 10min later, I was done with today's data set.
Also got a phone call from my advisor's neighbor. She wants me to housesit for her from the last week of July through August 15th. Since she's only a block away from Clay, he can pick up the slack if I have to head back to Louisville.
I guess this means I'll be able to do these other assays that need doing without worrying about where I'm going to sleep. And I'll probably get paid a little something, too.
