Aren't I glad I came back?
Jul. 8th, 2003 10:57 pmYes, yes I am.
I went over to Dave's for dinner tonight. He saved me from starvation and the further frustration of having to find something satisfying in my kitchen. It was also a good way to get me back here to work for another few hours to finish up what I couldn't get done this afternoon.
Well. I headed down to the ice box to find I had company. It was the same guy who's been in there off-and-on the past couple of days. . . the guy who's been keeping it so frigid. Well, he started talking to me, asking me questions about my micrographs (no, I really don't think you can bury any double entendres in that phrase, but feel free to try) and such. After a while, he came and sat down beside me and we started talking like (ohmygosh!) normal people! I did finagle a handshake - gotta check for any dead fish, you know - and was quite satisfied with the result of that. In fact, he held the handshake longer than I'm accustomed. I was a little taken aback - how long has it been since I've had one of *those* meetings?
*gasp*
He was a music major (saxophone) until an injury in his hand forced him to change his plans. Now he's a bio major. The music-to-bio-major transition happens more often than you might think, around here, actually :-)
It was cute. Steve opened the door and Adam (The Guy) very quickly moved back from where he'd been sitting near me. Ooo what fun!
I just may have to find an excuse to stop by the Strome/Saxton labs more often this summer.
At the very least, I need to see this guy under normal lighting conditions! LOL

Re: ::)
Date: July 9th, 2003 07:09 am (UTC)... we trip, stumble and slide through life... all the while hoping that the next fluke will be a good sort.

Date: July 9th, 2003 06:52 am (UTC)Kinda funny, I was thinking this morning - usually people get to know each other under normal lighting, sunlight, bar lighting, or by candle light.
Me? I meet a guy in a dark room lit only by computer monitors.
Now there's romance.

Date: July 9th, 2003 08:00 am (UTC)The boys in the lab whistle at me and they put "Brony is a hottie" on the lab computer screen saver for months. Yeah, in any other work place and some other gal, it would be called harrassment - but not these guys, and not me ;-)
It's all about confidence and knowing where the line really is. I've gained the former in the past couple of years, and learned the latter from experience. 'Sall good.
Anyway, I am the babe of the lab, but everybody here is taken! I need to be a babe elsewhere. I'm working on that, and may or may not have a line or two in the water on that matter. *whistles*
