I just found out that I was not deemed eligible for the job at the CDC. The letter said I didn't have the required experience. Not that any level of experience was specified, beyond a PhD or commensurate education + experience. Oh well. I wasn't expecting to get the job, but I'd hoped there'd be a conversation, at least.

*sigh*

On to the next.

Hey. Let's get busy on those little profiles, eh?

For what it's worth... that usually means they already had someone they wanted to hire, but they had to post the job because of the EEO requirements. I see that sort of BS more often than I really like to think about.

Hang in there... *hugs*

Thanks. You may be right. I'll be ok, I just need to pout for a little while, drink a beer or two - or have a little bailey's - and I'll be fine in the morning.

For now, bleh.

I understand... *hugs*

Look at it this way... now you can still take that perfect job that's still waiting for you to find it! :-)

Eggzackly!

I couldn't agree more.

I was also going to suggest asking them what specifically you were lacking in experience and what specifically they were looking for so you could improve upon that in future applications ....the worst they can do is ignore the request or such, but I would DEFINITELY ask. Its a win-win for you. It could point out something important or be useful. And if they don't reply, who cares, they already turned you down, screw them.

:)

Hmmm

Good idea. I'll think about that one.

But it doesn't make it any easier. Would have been so nice to have it fall in place quickly and easily. LUV SA

PS. glad you liked the bubble wrap ;-D

The silver lining, for what it's worth -- it may be healthier this way. Still, I am sorry.

My condolences. We have to grow a thick skin. Fortunately most of us do by the time we get to be doctors. But repeated disappointments make it hard to stay up for the interviews that do come along. I know because I just had a mediocre one.

Yep. I've grown a thick research skin, now I need to toughen my "please accept me, love me, hire me" skin :-)

I'm going to get a great position, I know it. Once my paper comes out. . . plus the other 4 I have on tap. . . they'll be knockin' on MY door! Or at least, they may be more likely to open the door when I come a-knockin'.

When they say wacky things like that about "experience," I always suspect that the job was wired for someone working there already or with connections. Another tipoff on that is if the job description is very specialized or has an odd combination of specializations.

Government agencies are required by law to go through a "competitive" selection. But very often that is a farce.

Sorry you didn't get the interview. My greatest ambition once was to teach at the law school from which I graduated.
I had been a top grad, and I had had a good career since law school. I knew that my law school, like most "lesser" law schools, would want to hire grads from more prestigious schools, so I did not expect to get the job. But I did expect to at least get some personalized attention, as I was an alum who did well there. In fact, I got a canned letter. That burns a bit with me, even today. But I guess I should have expected it. In fact, though, I have had a great career even without my "dream" job.

You'll get great jobs and do great things. Don't worry about this one.
